Chile’s Vina Errazuriz Wines Represent Value

Errazuriz Winery
Errazuriz Winery

Don Maximiniano founded this quality-oriented Chilean winery, in 1870 in the Valle de Aconcagua, approximately 100 kilometres north of Santiago de Chile.

The founder’s philosophy was “From the best land, the best wines”, and is continues by Eduardo Chadwick, a descendent of the family.

Don Maximiniano’s family emigrated from the Basque country in 1735. The founder was born in Santiago in 1832.

Vina Errazuriz produces several lines of wine – Estate Series, Arboleda, and Sena. Caliterra wines are also closely affiliated the company.

Chile is one of the few countries that never experienced the dreaded phylloxera aphid’s devastation. This is thanks to the Andes Mountain chain in the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the vigilance of the government that imposed strict controls on vines imported.

Today, Vina Errazuriz owns vineyards in Aconcagua, Casablanca Valley, and Curico.
I visited Aconcagua vineyards and winery, and tasted this property’s cabernet sauvignon and syrah.

The vineyards are laid out well, and maintained impeccably, pruned to lower yield and concentrate fruit flavour.

Recently I had a welcome opportunity to taste
