Professor B’s June 27 Vintages Release Recommendations

Vintages Release Recommendations
Vintages Release Recommendations

This release features the bets selling brands from previous offerings of Vintages. Many of them are $ 20.00, a few quite expensive.

Another objective of the release a few days before the launch of Pan American Games and Parapan in Toronto was to include wines from all South American wine producing countries i.e Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina.

Mexico is also included (Mexicans consider themselves North American and as such believe their country to be part of North America). This may be true geographically, but not by considering mentality or beliefs.

Surprisingly, there are sparkling wines that taste very good. The one from Mexico is produced by Freixenet, the famous sparkler producer from Catalonia in Spain is fine, but the Brazilian pinot noir sparkler tastes more appealing.

My recommendations are:

Sparkling wine

Aurora, Serra Gauche, Brazil
From Southern Brazil, this high altitude sparkler is made entirely using pinot noir. It is floral, fruity, refreshing and crisp. It is a bargain!

Dessert wine

Tokaji Aszu Four Puttonyos, 2007, Grof Degenfeld, Tokaji, Hungary
Deep golden colour. An elixir exuding candied apricot, beeswax, dried apple, and honeycomb aromas.
The wine is medium-bodied, with a fine balance of sweetness and acidity. Intense, a delicious wine with a long finish.

White wines

Estate Chardonnay, 2013, Ridge Vineyards, Santa Cruz Mountains, California
Light yellow in colour. Perfumey and floral, with underlying citrus aromas and touch of vanilla. Well balanced, and elegant. Rich mouth feel. An outstanding wine to pair with pan fried Dover sole or wild Atlantic salmon filet, or poached salmon with dill and home made mayonnaise.

Old Vines Chenin Blanc, 2014, Kenn Forrester, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Ken Forrester is South Africa’s chenin blanc specialist. The fruit for this flavourful chenin blanc came from truly old ( 35+years) vines and it shows in its depth, purity and intensity. Balanced and soft. Enjoy with roast chicken, pastas with chicken breast, or sauteed chicken with red peppers, or cauliflower and herbs, or breaded chicken breast.
