Nearly all the states produce wine, but California, Oregon, Washington, and New York are the major American wine producing and consuming regions.

Ever 60 Minutes aired the French Paradox segment, American wine consumption has increased, and continues unabated. Now the U.S.A is on teh way to becoming the largest wine-consuming nation, mostly because the population (exceeding 330 million), and relative wealth. The average per capita wine consumption is still 12 – 13 litres, much lower than France, Italy, Spain, and even Portugal.

California is the largest wine producer of the union, and manages to cerate very fine wines, but in my opinion the very high-end wines are overpriced.
In this release, I scored several red wines 90 plus, but almost all are priced well above my scores indicate.

Oregon produces fine pinot noirs, and now also chardonnay, but the next state north (Washington), is better known for its hearty red wines offers better value.
