Tasting Grandi Marchi Wines

Italy is world’s leading wine producer with approximately 48 million hectolitres. There are more than 2000 wineries, plus hundreds of co-operatives that produce an untold amount of brands. The Grandi Marchi is an association of 19 prestigious, family-owned and operated wineries that promote their wines throughout the wine drinking world.

The members of the association are – Alois Lageder (Alto Adige), Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari (Tuscany), Marchesi Antinori (Tuscany), Argiolas (Sardinia), Biondi-Santi Tenuta Greppo (Tuscany), Ca’ Del Bosco (Veneto), Carpene Malvolti (Veneto), Gaja (Piedmont), Jermann (Friuli), Lungarotti(Umbria), Agricola Masi (Veneto), Mastroberardino (Campania), Michele Chiarlo (Piedmont), Pio Cesare (Piedmont), Tasca d’Almerita (Sicily), Umani Ronchi (Marche), Tenuta San Guido (Tuscany), Donnafugata (Sicily), Rivera (Puglia).

The members visit Toronto bi-annually. In 2016 Biondi-Santi and Ca del Bosco decided not to participate.

I tasted about 60 of the 67 wines presented, and scored them as follows:
