Vintages essentials – a selection form the extensive list

Spanish Wine

The L.C.B.O. (Liquor Control Board of Ontario), the Ontario provincial alcoholic beverage distribution system, offers a number of choices.

It operates a little more than 610 stores throughout the province, and in the summer a number of concessions, then a division called Vintages that offers more than 100 wines from all over the world every fortnight, plus a constant list of selected spirits, sparkling-, fortified, still red and whites wines, and liqueurs and a classic selection of superior and world famous wines twice yearly.

In addition to the above, agencies are allowed to bring in consignment loads to sell directly, but all shipments go through the L.C.B.O’s distribution system and taxed until orders are picked up at their warehouses.

You can also import your own wine, and/or spirits through the intermediary of the L.C.B.O.

The Vintages division releases offer carefully selected wines, but once the quantity is sold, there may be no other shipment until the next vintage, or none, pending on the popularity and pricing of the offer.

Vintages Essentials is a category of wines that are available all the time, but the vintage of any wine may change without notice.

The catalogue is issued twice annually and can be obtained by logging on to Vintages.com.

Recently, Wine Writers’ Circle of Canada member tested all Vintages Essentials wines.
Vintages Essentials carry now more than 130 brands.
