Professor B’s April 16 Vintages Release Recommendations

This time around, Vintages decided to feature wines of ten European benchmark regions – Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Loire valley, Rhoen valley, Piedmont, Tuscany, Veneto, Rioja, and Douro Valley.

Surprisingly, Germany or any of its wine – producing regions was absent from the list. Yet, a few German wines are included into the general offerings of the release.

A few California wines from Mendocino, Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Monterey, Paso Robles and Lodi are reasonably priced by

L C B O standards.

Rioja and Ribera del Duero wines from Spain represent good value, for two reasons  – Spain’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) has decreased recently, although now is starting to struggle upwards. Simply put there is too much wine and little internal demand. Wineries are forced to under price their wines to reduce inventories, and the only way they can do this is export. Consumers in foreign markets are beneficiaries of the economy in Spain.

There is no spirit in this release.
